Only got a minute? Here’s what you need to know from ETS:
- ETS has grown again! We have one new graduate and 5 new students who have joined the team in the past 2 weeks!
- We’re expecting Colo 1 to be available for development testing before the end of the month.
- We’ve completed our cloud management platform proof of concept. You can watch the demo, here.
- For IAM we have completed our Data Mapping exercise across the different data sources. This means we are ready to integrate!
- The new employee portal will go live to employees and contractors on November 1, 2019.
Welcome new Team Members!
- A new graduate, Samuel Stenton, joined the ETS on Monday as a Cloud Engineer. Sam completed a successful student placement year at Lilly before returning to Portsmouth University to finish his degree in Computer Science.
- We have also just welcomed 5 new students developers to the team. Dani Jellicoe, Nik Nikolov, Felicia Kovacs, Marian Jitaru and Taylor Hobbs will be with us for a year before returning to their universities to complete their computing related degrees. We’re excited to welcome their energy into the team and can’t wait to see some of their ideas come to life!
Network - Paul Graham
- It is a very busy time in the Network workstream with the Network RFP concluding and the commissioning of the first Colocation data centre being finalised in Ashburn, VA. With a few final snags to iron out, we expect Colo 1 to be available for development testing before the end of the month and from there we will rapidly turn our attention to the build of Colo 2 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
- Alongside the excitement of the infrastructure build out, we are working on the RFP for the Call centre solution. This is a key business facility will service HR, Sales, Customer Service, Finance and TACS, which needs to be operational by 1st November this year. The initial proposals are already being evaluated, so watch this space for more news.
Cloud - Calum Bell
- We in ETS have recently visited Warsaw Poland in order to recruit some of our engineering talent in the GBS, we interviewed 23 candidates, however only ended up making an offer to one candidate who met the bar. This is primarily attributed to the very low unemployment rate (1.4%) in Warsaw and the number of companies aggressively hiring engineering talent including Google, Amazon and Samsung. - We are now approaching alternative methods of recruiting to help identify talent.
- We have now completed our CMP Proof of Concept, which represents how we’d like to surface our Cloud/CoLo capabilities to end users in our future state. This can be viewed here.
- Our Production Hub (which each production environment connects to) is now complete and we are close to being able to spin up all other subscriptions using automation.
- We have now validated that the VPN connection from Azure is connected successfully with our CoLo1 environment, meaning that once it’s live we’ll be able to move data between the environments.
Identity - Calum Bell
- In IAM we are now complete with our Data Mapping exercise across the different data sources which means we are ready to integrate!
- We are building out AD and RSA in CoLo 0, however we are still waiting on CoLo 1 in order to implement the final solution for testing and qualification.
- We are working closely with workplace to do a short demo here in the UK of the future Elanco experience, showing how Windows Hello (Passwordless) will allow end users to log in and use their e-mail without inputting their password.
- Lilly and Elanco are now aligning on a potential tool which will help run the tenant migration, we are meeting next week to discuss any gaps and potential problems with the vendor.
Workplace, Collab and Productivity - Jo Joss
- Please don’t advise anyone to move their files and documents to any different tools just yet. We’re working on guidance to be issued when we have a better understanding of how the tools we will use for the migration will actually work, and how to prepare people without causing problems later on. If you have users asking about how to prepare the best thing they can do is begin to clear out and get rid of things they don’t need, and remove any personal files from work devices as these will not be in scope for migration. We pay based on how much we move, so let’s try and keep costs down by getting rid of clutter
- We are working with WWT to put together a proposal of how each collaboration and productivity tool can be positioned and governed in order to provide the capabilities needed, but without becoming a wild west situation! This will go for internal approval through the correct channels before any decision is made.
End User Compute - Adam Fussey
- Negotiations with our preferred Helpdesk and End-User support vendor are proceeding well, with final discovery and assessment due to happen during July/August aiming to onboard them from mid-September.
- In parallel we are also finalising decisions on the laptop/desktop hardware vendor and will land that decision as part of onboarding the Support Vendor.
Service Management (ServiceNow: Employee Portal, IT, HR, E&C) - Ben Nuthak:
- The new employee portal will go live to employees and contractors on November 1, 2019.
- People will transition to the new IT Helpdesk when they receive their new Elanco device (laptop, cell phone, etc).
- Lilly and Elanco have aligned on the details of this Service Management and Helpdesk transition to provide the most efficient and user-friendly transition for the end users.
- Before end users are transitioned to the new Helpdesk, the Employee Portal will display the Lilly Helpdesk call number and will automatically forward Incidents and Lilly Requests to the Lilly ServiceNow portal and Lilly Helpdesk.
